Racial Equity
Jump Links
The Open Society Foundations have supported the struggle for racial justice in the United States since beginning grant giving in the country in the 1990s. The Soros Economic Development Fund has also begun to engage in issues of racial equity and anti-Black racism through targeted investments that reinforce this broader commitment.
Objectives
SEDF aims to use investments in private business to reinforce the grant giving work of the Open Society Foundations, including their 2020 commitment to provide $150 million over five years to Black-led justice organizations that helped to create and now sustain the momentum towards racial equality.
SEDF will seek investment in business enterprises that foster change and create systemic impact in a range of areas, including Black economic empowerment, reform of the criminal and civil justice system, and increasing Black worker power.
